Well folks I'm thinking of giving the website an overhaul . We have had great support over the years and we cant thank you enough for using our services and since all of you out there keep us working we would like to here from you on this . Hello folks I'm back from Alaska Just in time for the 2007 Salmon run on the Salmon and Oswego rivers. We are looking forward to the great season ahead, There are good numbers of fish out in front of the rivers and the average size fish is looking good. We could use a little rain to get things going up here but its early yet. We would like to thank all who booked over the summer for your patients Annie held the fort down as best she could while I was in Alaska but she had a busy summer herself. Wow its been a great week with lots of fish to the boat doesn't matter what where or how you do it you will come up with fish on the salmon river, it is that time of year wear it is silly fishing and the best part is it will be this way for a few weeks I'm sure , the brown trout fishing out front is picking up also , Man does it get an better the steelhead are bitting the turkeys are gobbling and the walleye are opening next weekend. Great time of year . We have openings Lake fishing driftboat fishing for steelhead and we even have a spot for turkey so give us a call . OK here are some picks from the last few days on the salmon river . You will see a familiar face ,(Paul) he was the one that caught the biggest brown this season , this time he brought his son up PJ with him for his first steelhead trip . PJ had a blast fishing the creek and plugging the Salmon river for giant steelhead , and he also enjoyed catching CHUBS believe it or not , so he picked up the nick name of C.B. (chub boy), he was a riot in the boat we had many laughs and many fish . We must have worked him hard because he feel asleep in the bottom of the driftboatas u can see in the pic, well its time to get sleep and get ready to fish again in the AM,

April 20

 The river has been up the last few days but will be back to better levers soon . Even with the river running high the fishing has been outstanding , I have talked to the folks at the hatcheries and they have just finished the egg take .After the eggs are taken from the STEELHEAD they are put into holding tanks for a period of 21 days along with antibiotics in the water to help in the Restoration of the protective slim on these fish and to also make sure they will be free of any unwanted diseases so that being said we all know that these fish are spawning a little late this season so there will be steelhead in this river till the end of may maybe early June so make plans to come fish in your t shirts and shorts . its a great time to come up the crowds will be gone and there will be fish everywhere.WE HAVE BEEN HITTING THE LAKE FOR THE BROWNS AND HAVE NETTED A FEW VERY NICE FISH FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR ,THE NUMBERS ARE NOT HIGH BUT SOME VERY BIG BROWNS BEING CAUGHT. Friday April 11

River has been running 1850 with plenty of run off. Tonight it will be jumping up to 5000. We have noticed an increase of spawning activity over the last few days but it is still cold so the major spawn hasn't even happened yet . There are so many fish at the hatchery you couldn't put another steelhead in the stream. The brown trout season has started on the lake and things are starting to heat up out there . It will be an interesting spring as we will be all fishing walleye browns and I believe we will be fishing steelhead well into may . Wednesday April 2

    Over the last few weeks fishing has been fantastic most of the time with a few days of slower bite but the numbers and size of our fish are aw some. I can only see it getting better over the next few weeks .The fly zone opened this week and is packed with fish from upper to lower and people are taking advantage of it . Most bank anglers I have talked to over the last week have been doing very well with the flows being great. I have seen an increase of redds along the upper end of the river and the plugging action is picking up with a mix of fresh and  post spawn fish bending the plugging rods , as you all know we fish the float about 80% of the time but do fly fish and plug once in a while , float fishing has been the ticket for us and we have netted some bruisers over the last few weeks . I have talked to a few guide friends and all say the same , this season has produced more trophy fish than the last 4-6 years , we have landed many fish in the high teens 17-18-19 lbs and there are more to come and we are due for that 20 lber , maybe it will be you. I will be posting pics of our last few trips and hope to here from you all soon ,

 This past week has been great fishing for the most part , we have had a day or so were the bite slowed a little but things are looking very good for the spring steelhead season. We are still catching fish on jigs and eggs, pink worm and other plastics, The weekends are just plain crowded so if your planing a trip try for a weekday trip  it may pay off big time . The river remains at a good level and the fishing will continue to pick up as the water warms a bit over the next few weeks. WE STILL HAVE SPRING TRIPS AVAILABLE SO GIVE US A CALL , HERE ARE SOME PICS.

Fishing remains productive with a mix of fresh and older fish up and down the river , weather is a factor with the high winds and colder temps in the Am can make it challenging in the early hrs. The most productive baits are eggs in white blue pink (nothing new there) and jigs are taking some big fish also , and last but not least is the bead in many colors , try colors that you normally wouldn't and you might be surprised. Sorry there hasn't been many post but we are have something done on the site and i haven't had time to post . spring fishing is setting up to be the best season we have had in years there are Hugh numbers of steel in the river and there still coming so dont wait book your spring trips now along with your walleye and brown trout trips. Hello folks I have been very busy so let me apologize for not posting any reports I know we have been slacking off but we just have had so many problems with our site this season that we are having some changes and other things done to the site to improve it. We have had many issues with our site and it will all be taken care of over the spring and summer  so look for the new upgrades and exciting new look our site. I will be getting ready to head to Alaska fro another exiting season in the Bristol bay area . Charlie and Mike joined me on the swollen Salmon River today with the wind whipping and the snow fling sideways we had one objective and that was to land both of there first steelhead. It wasn't going to be easy the fish have been tight lipped over the last 2 days with all the run . But we got in before sun up and locked up the hole that I thought we would have the best chance , now there are fish every where but when the water is that high you really need to pay attention to the slowest water possible with access to dietarie supply (LOL) . The day started very slow almost 2 hrs into the first spot and we almost moved on but I held off a bite and it finally payed off we started catching some very nice steelhead . mike started it off with a nice 8 lber and Charlie backed it up with his first ever steelhead 12lbs... Well we hammered them for a few hrs and that was that all in all very good for the conditions  .landed 5 fish  and lost a few nice ones . Charlie landed a nice 14 lber and lost an even bigger one right at the boat. Ok we are out in the AM.

Well the fishing was very slow for us yesterday but that was to be expected with the runoff and the temp of the river dropping 3 degrees over night. There were only 3 boats out today and all had the same success we had witch is ZERO. So that being said the good news is this wont last long  and the rise in the water will bring in some bright fish . Fishing will continue to get better with the usual late winter push of chrome just before the spawn. I have been pleased with the number of browns we have been seeing and hope we will be seeing more. We have also noticed the size and condition of the steelhead we have been catching have been excellent . Things seem to be getting better every year with this 1 steelhead a day limit and most of our anglers practicing catch and release on the rivers and streams in our area has helped . This would be the spring to bring up the family we have great numbers of fish in the salmon and Oswego river and it will only get better over the next few weeks so give us a call and we will put you in the drift boat  and  get you hooked up to a monster trout. i have been getting some emails stating that some of you are having trouble getting your emails to me, I am working on it , if you get your email kicked back to you please give us a call at 315-298-4599 we are in the process of updating our site so please feel free to call us.

wind is brutal today so no fishing for us. But the fishing the last few days has been great. Brian fished with me on Monday for a few hrs , We headed right down to ace in the hole and didn't touch a fish for the first 2 hrs . Then we hit the mother load we fished a spot that usually holds a few steelhead and a brownie or 2 at most on a daily basis but this day we really got our moneys worth in this spot . We landed 10 brown trout out of this hole and all were 7 -12 lbs we also lost another 4 that never got to the net but were without a doubt brownies also lost a steelhead or 2 . NEEDLESS TO SAY WE SPENT SOME TIME THERE . I cant remember ever catching that many browns in one hole on the Salmon river and I will remember it for a long time we had a blast . We did land a few other fish after that.  TUESDAY Mike joined me for a half day of steelhead fishing and I will not keep posting numbers at this point it was just silly fishing All fish were big for us today most were double digit. REALLY FOLKS BEST STEELHEADING IN MANY YEARS AND THATS THE STRAIGHT UP TRUTH. Oswego is also fishing well . fish porn coming

Mike and Laden joined me for a few days of steelhead fishing. Mike has fished with us for the last few years but Laden is a green horn, but not for long . Fridays weather was not the greatest with winds up to 30 miles an hour and temps never getting above 20 it was a challenge keeping the ice off the guides. I dont think we saw more than 5 guys fishing all day and not anther boat on the river . I couldn't have asked for more we hit fish where ever we stopped and laden was a natural landing his first steelhead hooked and also landing his first salmon river brownie ,I think he is hooked. Mike is ladens boss and i think a future fishing partner . We never had to work very hard for spot to fish or a hook up. Things sure changed in 24 hr I though tr with the lack of people here Friday that sat would be a little less crowded man i couldn't have been any more wrong. We decided to fish trhe same water and it just didn't work out there were people in every hole i couldn't believe people walked in 3-4 foot snow to get to these spots , great for them bad for us(LOL) so after a little fishing and a fish or 2 we packed it in and mike will return during the week. The fishing has been awesome to say the least and if you want to catch winter steelhead come up nowwwww!!!!!!!! I usually do not push the fishing in the winter but its just to good to pass up . I haven't even been Ice fishing yet THATS HOW GOOD IT IS.  Well here is some fish porn for ya . drop me a line and let me know what ya think. No numbers too many to count on most trips.

Finally dug our way out , we have gotten over 4 foot in the Altmar area and about the same down to Pulaski. Needless to say fishing is taking a back seat to shoveling snow . I think with the river having a lack of fisher on it over the last few days should produce a great bite mid week to the end of the week if the temps stay level . Looks like temps in the mid to upper 20s end of week thats not bad . So put the rods in the truck, take a drive with the boys and head for the river .

Wow the fishing has been awesome the last 2 days with lots of fresh CROME coming and fish spread out top to bottom , Brian (buck) and Jim Kelso a fixture on this river and an avid spay rod fisherman joined me yesterday for a day of steelhead fishing. It was nice to have experience in the boat it gave us the opportunity to try different techniques over the same water to see what would be more effective, Jim was spay fishing and Brian was fishing the pin with jigs most of the day and I was using bags . We all had fish and we did very well hooking fish but just couldn't get them to the net ,we did manage to land 3 but not great compared to how many we hooked and played . But thats part of the game as you have herd me say before many times . Its good to be back from Florida and I'm sure glad that the river is just chuck full of steelhead . brings a smile to my face.

OK back from vacation. We have gotten alot of emails and calls over the last few weeks and its been tough keeping up with it all while on vacation so everyone that is looking to book trips with us please call us or email us we will be monitoring the site closely now that we are back. I would like to here from every one that will be joining us on the brown trout trip in 08 we need to get everyone set up with lodging and make sure everyone gets to fish with the same guys as last year if thats what you want so drop me a line guys and gals and dont forget we are offering a few DEER HUNTS THIS SEASON AS WELL AS THE CAST AND BLAST BIRD HUNTS . Tom at Baker Farms is really putting his best foot forward to make sure we have every thing we need and also catering to the kids lots of new things in store for us this year . We are still in sunny Florida having a blast .I have been fishing with some friends and my brother just about every day. I have put up a few pics of some fish we caught in Matlacha near Pine Island. DECEMBER 22

Well I have been in Florida for 5 days now and haven't wet a line yet. Would yo believe we broke a front axle on the Ford Excursion 50 miles from Largo and have been waiting for parts ever since, WHAT A BLAST,,,well I guess its better than sitting in 5 foot of snow trying to fix it . I am hoping to get out after XMASS with some friends on the flats . The trout and snooker are all up in the back waters were the water temps are higher so hoping to get into them soon. The good thing is I have got to spend some time with the family so there happy and this will give me points so I can put the kayak up on the ford and take off for a few days to do some exploring . I know you are all waiting for me to come back so you can drift for some winter steel and I will be there soon , until then hope you all have a great holiday .

Today Pierre and Mike joined me again for some winter steelhead action . We put in around 11 am and found the bite to be challenging at best Pierre learned to fish the pin today and ended up with 1 brown and 1 steelhead landed not bad for the first time pinning he played 3 others that didn't want to come to the net now Mike on the other hand struggled today , sometimes luck plays a bigger hand than we think , sorry mike next time it will be your side of the drift. We had a very nice afternoon in the driftboat and I was glad to have a few friends in the boat for my last trip of the month. I will be off to Florida for a few weeks to visit family and to fish my brains out and work on the winter sun tan , don't worry I will put a hat on . Well I would like to thank all of you for keeping us going for another year , its great to have so many friends out there who love the outdoors as much as we do .We have some changes coming up this year and hope you all enjoy the site . I know we have been slacking a little on reports but its just been a very busy year for us . We hope to do better this season with the reports . I will be posting some pics of our fishing trips over the next few weeks and if anyone wants to go steelhead fishing remember we have a few great guides waiting to take you out fishing , and the fishing has been very good. If you have been watching the weather you know its still snowing up here we have had at least 2 1/2 ft snow over the last 2 days and the temps have been very low so a few trips were canceled but the fishing has been good , we have good numbers of steel in the salmon and the Oswego river, I have taken the time to do a little deer hunting this season and have been seeing lots of deer on the baker farm where we do our pheasant hunts during November. I will be heading to Florida for a few weeks , visiting family and doing some fishing. Man I cant wait for some sunshine. I have a few dates open 10/11/12/DEC if anyone is interested, we have also booking the brown trip for next season so give us a call if you want to fish with the same guys as this past season.

Today I fished with Gary and John , I let the guys sleep in this morning as well as myself ( GOTTA DO IT MORE OFTEN) We started up in school house pool with no luck then down to the wire where we were just getting the drift down and the guys were starting to get into the swing of it. The sun was peaking out but didn't look like it was going to stick around and as we all know sometimes the sun will bring the temp up and turn on the bite . The river seemed to have people in every spot I planed to fish today but most were fishing the the bottom and we were float fishing . John started it off with a nice 8 lb hen in the wire and Gary followed with a nice hen also after that I lost track of how many they had on and running it seemed like every big fish kicked our ass but we played and landed allot of fish John and Gary took like men and had a great time any time you can boat double digits and play even more thats a great steelheading day anywhere you just dont alway get the big ones  maybe next time guys. The fishing has been great for us sorry no pics camera is down again . We have openings for steelhead please give us a call ,

with the cold snap Friday the fishing was tough but did pick up sat sun with the temps staying steady. We fished with Don and son Joe again , they joined me for salmon season (combat fishing ) so this was going to be a little more relaxed atmosphere. We put in behind most boat so we could fish the afternoon bite and it was a good idea , there were so many people it looked like salmon season again. Don is a laid back guy and the apple didn't fall far from the tree with Joe s, so we just took our time fishing each area and covering the hole well. The bite wasn't on till after 1 pm with the temps climbing things started looking good . Joe hooked up first and I think it took him by surprise after all we had been fishing for 2 hrs and not a bite. well we lost the next 2 fish after that and finally down below the trestle Don landed a steelie , Then Joe took charge and landed the next 3 fish he hooked redeeming himself. It was a good day on the water  and I saw lots of fish in every hole , many of them were dime bright fresh fish so things look great for the winter steelhead season. Well I'm out the door.

The monster brown trip went off with a bang. This years trip was the best yet with many huge browns and rainbows caught and lots of pheasant taken. We also ended the trip with a few deer hunts , even with the low water conditions the fish were there , we had to change tactics a bit but it worked out with many big browns and rainbows coming to the net. This trip has become some what of a social event Thanks to Tom over at Baker farms we now have a great place to gather and do all them things that fisherman and hunters do. He has opened up the farm to us and the hospitality is great, All the kids caught fish and shot birds and will be back next year , we will be adding some deer hyuts this year , The opener of shot gun was a blast , Tom had his stands ready for his clients and all of them had an opportunity to shoot , 11 hunters took 5 deer on the opener   a few of the younger guys(first time hunters) had cases of buck fever but had a great time 1 young man saw something like 11 deer , I myself took a doe and passed on a very nice 8 point that was taken by Toms client Annie from Vermont it was the biggest deer taken , she was thrilled as all of us were , so all in all this trip of ours has turned out to be a regular sportsman's getaway. i will be posting the dates for the MONSTER BROWN TRIP SOON and we will be offering dates for hunting deer and pheasant. If you missed it this year you wont want to miss it next year. We have some great ideas for next season and you wont want to miss it . I will be taking bookings on this trip soon so you can all set up your lodging and hunts. Tom at the fair haven inn also will be accepting bookings early for next season. Well I'm on the river this week , we landed 3 for 9 today ,they got the best of us . Fished with Scott and Mark from Jersey the last few days. It was there first time fishing up in this neck of the woods. Scott had never been trout fishing at all so this was going to be a treat for him for sure . Well first cast in the morning brought in a 5 lb brown trout and it was on from there. The morning have been great the last few days but by 10 am it is like a light switch goes off . Browns are finally dropping eggs , even with the great fishing we have had the big push still isn't here yet The canals haven't drained yet so we are waiting for that to happen and when it does look for some killer fishing for a week straight . The guys I have talked to are catching good numbers but are not catching many male fish browns , Tom Baker (BAKERS PHEASANT PRESERVE) has been great to us this year with plenty of birds at a price you cant believe and the hospitality has been 5 star. We will be offering these packages next season and I think the price will be the same so when you book for your monster brown trip (08) don't forget to book your pheasant hunt or tower shoot (80 birds released from tower) man what a blast. Finally some time for pics and report. It has been a fantastic week with lots of giant browns and rainbows and many steelhead and salmon .We are spending most of our time over at the oak this year basically the only river with flow, We did fish a creek that is not well know and we absolutely crushed them under the float and free lining sacks without weight. The conditions are the same on most creeks the rain we have had made little difference to them ,however they are draining the canal so a few creeks are up and have fish. What a difference a year make this time last year the browns were almost done spawning this year they are just starting to hit the gravel , we have been catching more steelhead than rainbows the last 2 days along with big numbers of hen brownies in still skeined up. The high light of our trip so far is Paul's FANTAIL RAINBOW that was caught sat the 10 Nov just 2 days after his 15 lb brown trout man he has had a great trip Paul and his friend harry stay with me for a week and do some serious fishing and pheasant hunting while they are here. We also get in a few nights in the tree stand with the bow thanks to TOM BAKER OF OWNER OF BAKER FARMS where we hunt the pheasants and chuckers, and he also has over 20 deer stands on 500 acres of managed deer property. I sat in a stand the night of the 10th and called in 2 buck with the grunt tube and 1 was only 10 yrds from me just no shot. We still have one more week up here and the best is yet to come. I have more steelhead dates available folks so give us a call and book your trip ,The SALMON RIVER is on fire along with the OSWEGO RIVER both are chuck full of fish and everyone is catching but the driftboat guys are really doing very well.  Anyone wanting to book for browns next season please dint wait call us now and book your dates they are already booking faster than I thought. Fishing has been fantastic for us , all clients are catching big fish this season. I have been changing around the game plan a little the low water ,most of our fishing has been in the holding water of course with this lower water they are reluctant to run the creeks so they are holding in the estuaries and lower parts of the rivers and creeks. We have been using egg sacks and 1/32  jigs under 1 gram floats or even free lining them. The weather is getting colder and the creeks are up a little but we are behind as far as the spawning of the browns are concerned the bulk of the fish arnt here yet. The Oak is fishing spottier at best but the good news is the fish we do catch there are in great shape ands big. We will continue to bring you pics and up to date reports from the oak for another week and a half. Paul has been fishing with me a long time along with his friend Harry , Paul has finally landed his wall mount , A giant brown trout .official scale said 15 on the nose, what a pig . I am sorry for the blurry pics but picture was taken with another camera and it can be adjusted so when I get a chance I will fix it up . well more to come I haven't even posted the last 2 days pics yet .

winter finally here, winds are howling and snow flying Fishing has been great for us over the last few days with many hugh browns coming to the net along with many rainbows and a few steelhead. The flow has been so slow we have been free lining egg sack and only using 1 gram floats but it seems to be working We are finding our bigger browns in holding water they are waiting for water to rise a little more and they will be on there way its very behind this season along with everything else. I have been over to 18 mile and its still low and crowded. check out big brown in the next report

Sorry once again for the slow report but the wireless is a pain in the u know what. This is the first time I have been able to post in a few days so here it is . Fishing has been good for us for the most part we found fish every where we looked but staying on them was another story we concentrated on the Oak for a few days with good numbers in the am but slower in the afternoon and man the water is so low and clear you really have to put the lite gear to the test. I checked on a creek that we used to fish a lot in the past with great success but the last few years has been unsuccessful and to my surprise it was chuck full of monster browns and rainbows as you will see in the pics, I couldn't believe it they were jammed together like cord wood. The guys had a great day today with many fish in the double digits, These fish were in water that was not moving at all so fishing was challenging to say the least. but rewarding none the less . no split shot and single eggs have been the ticket along with a a stealthy approach to a pool , any motion at all will send them packing down stream so lite line and stay out of the river at all cost. The oak and Burt dam both have good numbers and lots of people . The DEC opened the Burt dam to snagging over the weekend so the could get the eggs that they badly needed after the salmon some how disappeared out of the hatchery(loll) its a shame they start the little rumors and people actually believe them there not fooling anyone we know what happed to the Kings that were up there in Sept. That's for another time I guess . So it boils down to the fact that even with low water we can find the fish we just have to work a little harder .We had Ricky Martin and his crew up here along with Tony and Nick (dad son) for a few days with there 12 gauges and there centrepins they put on a good show after they landed a few nice browns and rainbows the joined Tom Baker of Baker Farms for a tower shoot. I tell you what they had a blast shoot them pheasant . There were 7 guns and over 80 birds flying down from the tower , what a blast ,feathers every where. We are starting our trips in the AM and things look good as far as fish coming in. I just wish we had more water, the fish are stacked out in front of all the creeks.. waiting patiently to enter there home waters to spawn. We were out again this morning playing and landed a dozen fish up to 12 lbs not bad for a few hours. then we found ourselves over at BAKER FARMS PHEASANT PRESERVE for a 2 hour shoot on Tom Baker the owner also meet up with the local D.E.C. officer Richard Rauscher and his brother who were also working there dog and shooting a few birds .Ok its time for us to hit the rack . We are finding some nice browns and steelhead in a few creeks but the water is very low making it challenging. We are out fishing the Oak in the am and we start our trips on the 1st so we will be posting pic and reports so you can all keep track of the trip. I hope we get a little rain (man that sounds like the same old song) but we need it some creeks down here have no flow at all fish are in the lake waiting for a trickle. We did land a few nice browns and a nice rainbow today so here is 1 pic for ya ,,, more to come

we have arrived at the Oak , The water is low in most of the creeks but fish are showing up , We made a stop at a creek that hasn't fished well over the last few years and found hundreds of big brownies and fresh coho salmon, there isn't much flow which makes the fishing tough but we did manage a few nice fish.I will be out and about in the AM looking for more territory to fish over the next few weeks. I will be heading over to Burt dam to check out the new wall that was put in over the summer ok if your coming up to the Oak drop me a line before you come. Well folks we ended our salmon season over in Oswego with Mike Clark and We ended with a bang. Mike went home happy and we are off to The Oak Orchard area for our annual monster brown trout trip. We will be doing something different this year and posting real time reports from down there with the help of our new WIRELESS LAPTOP COMPUTER so we are looking forward to a great trip with great action and great pics to go with it. Well I'm off I'm the early hours for a 2 day scouting trip on the way down so we will post pics from last trip when we arrive down there .We would like to thank our salmon fishing client for having faith and fishing and fishing in these low water conditions this season . We did well on all our trips and limited out and more on most . Hopefully we have better conditions next season so we can get back to our style of fishing .

Rain over the CNY area is holding steady and starting to fill the reservoirs . The fishing on the salmon river has been spotty in the upper reaches of the river over the last few days , The river is up to 350 cfs in hopes of drawing the kings to the hatchery for the egging process , We fished the upper river this morning where the kings should be up on the gravel and there were hardly any fish to be seen at all from Altmar  bridge to wire hole we had 2 fish on and that was it.We made our way down to the lower river and hooked a few more but all in all a very slow morning , I did make my way down lower at around 4 pm after receiving a call from a guide friend of mine and when I arrived the water was boiling with steelhead and fresh silver kings we must of hooked 80 fish in less than 2 1/2 hrs ,it was awesome and of course the clients were long gone. The kings were all in great shape and tight skeined and the steelhead were just ballistic as usual. Just cant believe the amount of kings coming in and no spawning activity up in the normal areas or at least very little spawning going on up there. The Oswego is fishing well and the water after today will even out a little , it has been up and down a lot lately. I have a few more trips before we leave for the monster brown run so we will be posting more reports and pics . DAY 2,

The boyz started off slow this morning but things picked up around 9.30 am with a good push of kings and steelhead coming threw. The river was much more crowded and the weather was much warmer than the day before but that didn't slow the fishing down we played many fish and the boyz had a great time as usual. We have a good soaking rain coming threw at the moment and I think the river will come up in the am along with the creeks. The fish we were catching in the late morning were fresher fish. We only have a hand full of salmon trips before we head off to the monster brown run If any one would like to book a salmon trip give us a call there are fresh salmon coming in and they will be fishing salmon well into November along with steelhead ,this will be a bonus for the steelhead guys so take advantage and book a trip . Steelhead steelhead steelhead . last few days good runs of crome coming up the Salmon River I just wish the water was higher because they are easy prey at this point for every surf rod toting cooler filling Neanderthal out there, now I know this isn't you but they do exists take for instance the guy in Douglaston who put 3 steelies on his stringer and claimed he thought they were salmon.  I think this happens more than we think maybe we should hold a 3 day class on fish identification and stream etiquette before you can enter the stream to fish(LOL) well enough ranting we did well today with the boys from Mass again . They have joined us again for 2 days of Salmon and steelhead fishing todays fishing was steady with kings on the move most of the day and small pods of crome moving threw only saw 1 brown hooked up in the last 2 days but CROME are showing in good numbers . Still have fish in the lake can you believe that , amazing i think, well we will post part 2 of the boys from Mass tomorrow

Fishing continues to get better as the temps fall at night and some rain has fallen in the area. The creeks are Finlay flowing allowing salmon to enter them in good numbers and it looks like more fish are coming into the salmon river every day , there are still big numbers of fish in the estuary . I would think that most will be moving into the river this week to find some gravel to do there thing now that the water is cooling down. I also have seen a jump in the steelhead Numbers this weekend and think November is going to be a fantastic month with many salmon still kicking around this will be a bonus for the steelhead bums we may even see a few coho around in early December , wouldn't that be a blast. well just a theory but we will keep our eye on it the next few weeks .Its almost time for the monster brown trout trip so all you guys and girls make sure you all have everything you need and all your reservations taken care off. Fished very hard over the last 4-5 days with many clients landing some great fish here are a few pics for you. the a look at the crazy crowded conditions on Sat and sun.

finally a good push of kings over the last 2 days. I would think the water temps and rain may have helped this a little . We have been fishing the ballpark area the last few days with good numbers of fish coming to the net. The Holiday weekend was almost unbearable with all the goons running a muck but things will change over the next week or 2, crowds will thin a little with hunting season upon us. Today Bill and his wife Jan joined me for a old fashioned king bashing and all went as planed Jan was hooked up first with a small jack and Bill followed with a giant lb king they were hooked never put the rods down all day and played many fish. With good numbers of kings coming by us all day most folks had there rods bent and stringers full. oh yea mo rain coming

Fishing remains the same with low water and fish trickling in .We are still fishing the lower Salmon river for fresh kings and coho , some days are better than others but we are catching fish every trip. I am really missing Oswego the last few days we are always there on the holiday weekend to get away from the crowds but there just hasn't been enough water maybe with the rain we that feel today water may come up over there. The crowds will start to thin a little over the next week but the fish will still be coming in, I believe into November . The waters out west are dong fine at the moment so brown trout trips will be on schedule . Today we fished ball park again and lost more than we landed but yesterday was the reverse. I cant wait till November I hear them big browns calling me. Oh yea if you are fishing with me on the monster brown trip and haven't made your lodging reservation you better get on it. fish are making there way up river even in the lowest water conditions I have ever seen this time of year. The kings are starting to show and are in good condition considering the low and warm water. We are looking at 75-80 s this week and not much rain in the forecast so weather is great for being out on the river but not salmon fishing weather at all. There has been some very nice trout caught over the last few days , we have stopped fishing in Oswego at the moment due to the water only running 300 cfs or less . George and Bill joined me today along with there family and friends, it was a new experience for them fishing in a crowded pool. We were at our spot at 3.30 am along with a guide friend(Harry Powers) and his clients from salmon heaven. At 6 am they came out of the woodwork and charged our hole and between the guy who walked right into the hole with 20-30 fish in it to the guys that decided that it was OK to fish where ever thay pleased which meant right on top of all our client in the hole we had been standing over fore 3 hours ,where do they come from and what the heck are they thinking . So today we looked for some quieter water to break in some newbies to fishing the SALMON RIVER. We landed a few fish but had many on and most people did well around us and all were respectful and that was a breath of fresh air. BACK AT IT IN THE AM. HERE ARE SOME PICS

Mike and his crew joined us again this year for some fishing over in Oswego . With conditions much different than last season,,, low,warm water we knew fishing could be a challenge and the boys were up for it ,Mike brought a few newbies with him from Ohio and they were rewarded with a few nice fish. We landed some nice kings and a few very nice rainbows .The biggest rainbows of there lives I might add. Saturday we fished Oswego again with about the same luck kings and rainbows with a few browns in the mix but we unfortunately had to end a marathon sun up to sundown trip at noon time after they turned the turbines off , just kick a guy when hes down  It is the only spot to fish with the drift boat except the mouth of the river at night. They ended there trip with a night run with some great action and a few fish boat to boot. I went to pick up clients this morning and to my disappointment they did not have any waders with them so I went fishing down at the black . and did well up to about 930 am when it shut down fishing this low clear water if challenging but not as challenging as the crowds on the weekends today was not so bad steady run of fish coming threw , browns also landed a few coho and a few steelhead lost a nice brown and hooked many kings ,,got me a little coho for the smoker it was a good morning except the one guy who had to fish my spot casting right over my line all morning he had his son with him and I think he was embarrassed as he should have been . There is no excuse for crowding I dont care how many fish are in a hole these are the same guys that leave there dam coffee cups and beer cans on the banks of the river. We really need to get on these jerks and if you have to embarrass them into picking up there junk. Say hey is that your junk buddy take it with you . You ask everyone about this and they say they do not leave anything behind but yet its filthy. PLEASE BRING A BAG OUT WITH YOU AND HELP US OUT UP HERE ,REALLY WHEN IS THE LAST TIME YOU DID THAT ,,,,IT WOULD HELP ALTO  ,,,THANKS IN ADVANCE     ((((((FISH PORN ))))))))

 Fishing is getting better ,we have had a little rain over thew last 2 days but not enough to fill reservoir. We will be heading over to the big O soon . Landed a few fish out in the estuary the last few nights and some fish low in trhe river today. Your best shot at fish is first light and late afternoon the sun has been shutting it down after it hits the water along with the hundreds of people wading threw every hole from Altmar to the estuary. I think a monsoon is in order LOL.We will be out again tonight. Notice all the goons in the background. It has been a little crazy with guys fishing elbow to elbow , need some fish to spread out a bit so its not so crowded. We are getting a good run as I type this tonight along with a drenching rain I'm hoping it lasts we really need as much rain as we can get.

They crushed them out in the lake today and we hit them hard at sun up in the mouth. The estuary will be on fire over the next few days with these fish coming in we had a great north wind last night and it blew some colder water into the bay , this Will help. I will be offering more dates at the end of Oct since these fish are arriving a little bit later than normal Oct 17-20 still open and we added 22-24-25-26-27-28 for salmon steelhead and browns so take advantage of these dates I usually take a few days off before I leave for the brown trout trip but not this season. There clocks are ticking and they are coming .

We finally have fish out in the mouth of the salmon river , our night trip did well last night and the lake trollers also are picking at them. Just came from rt 3 bridge and there has to be 3ooo coho swimming around the estuaries but without rain I'm afraid thats were they may stay for awhile. they are still catching fish out at 200 ft  so it looks like the fish will be considerably late this year . If you have a trip booked with me over the next week please call me so we can let you know now things are going. Night fishing has been good the last few nights. Oswego is low also but there are some fish showing up but no numbers yet. I HAVE A FEW NIGHT TRIP AVAILABLE 23-24 SEPT JUST OPENED UP give me a call. We have had a push of fish over the last 2 days but again not the big push we are looking for. We are out again tonight so I will keep you posted over the next few days, Man what a crazy year.

just a crazy start to salmon season with fish coming in and out day to day. We are looking at a very low water situation at this point and it doesn't look like we will be getting any anytime soon . The fish are trickling slowly and night trips are the only trips really producing . I have seen big pods of coho in the estuary but they are holding there . I would concentrate ON the deepest holes at this point they will be holding most of the fish. We haven't reported the last few days because of cancellation but we will be out everyday from now until it ends. We still have a spot or 2 open for brown trout and also a fewer salmon dates

Lake fishing is hot right now , but the salmon are still waiting to run the very low water conditions on the salmon river we have a cool down this week and some rain coming so things will change over the next few days.  There are some fish up in the river but not Hugh numbers. Sorry folks had to run to Rhode Island due to a death in the family. We are back on track up here and the fish are moving into the river fished the lake and ballpark today many bent rods in both places. The water is extremely low in the river and very warm so we are hoping the fish will hold up in the estuary a little longer. The night trips are doing very well I saw 4 boats hooked up this morning on my way out to the lake. Man I cant wait till my first night trip its a blast and it looks like we may have a great year for the estuary with this lower water conditions. We have a little rain in the for cast over the next few days but not much I dont think. Steelhead have made there way up the salmon river already seems to be a few in every hole from the reports and I myself seen a few today up in Ellis cove and the lower fly ,a little early for steel with this warm water we need some cooler nights many floating salmon in the estuary due to high temps its a good thing most are spread out in  the lake . well I'm back out for the evening bite

Fish are coming. The lake has been producing good numbers of kings and cohos from 120-60 ft of water. Trolling flashers and flies, j-plugs, cut bait, all seem to be working well. The river has seen a few fish the last day or two but no Hugh runs as of last evening. but I wouldn't be surprised if they were stacked in there this morning. I will be out on the lake in the morning for the first trip of the season, It sure is good to be back home a little early. I have a few friends over on Oneida lake that have been reporting great walleye and perch fishing . Hope we see some rain soon water is very low. I have a few dates open for salmon season they are prime dates that were not filled because I didn't plan on being back from Alaska till the Th of September so I will put them up if anyone is interested , MORE TO COME

Over the last few days STEELHEAD fishing has come to an end for the most part but the walleye fishing and brown trout fishing has picked up. Oswego is still behind as far as Walleye action but the brownies are hitting everything you troll. Some kings have been caught but not in huge numbers.We have been hitting Oneida lake for the eater walleye and lake Ontario for the brownies. Not long before I'm in the great state of Alaska . I cant wait,m I'm hoping to send some pics back via email for all you back home to droll over. I will be wrapping up my trips this week so I can spend a little time with the other half before i leave.

Fished with the boys from the big city again, This was there first time out on the big lake O. The browns were bitting great Sat morning with over 8 in the box and 15 R more played the action was great just no fish over 7 lbs. Sunday was a slower bite but we didn't tough it out docked the boat by 11 am with a few fish boated and a few lost. Monday was family day with Tyler who is only 5 yr taking top honors with a 12 lb monster brown This fish was almost as big as him and boy were the other 2 boys jealous (Brandon,Cameron) but not for long all kids and dad hit them good and we called it early . Walleye fishing is slow in Oswego but very good over in Oneida lake. I have passed on a few birds looking for mister big , things should heat up with hens hitting the nest soon. more steel head in the river believe it or not and no boats great time to fish the Salmon River call us we have a day or 2 during the week.

Scott Joined me again this weekend for a little high water fishing. We had a late start sat morning so we decided to hit a few local creeks just for a change of pace . I usually stay away from these areas due to over crowding and unethical fishing practices. I was ashamed to have a client with me on this particular tributaries . We walked about a mile of this creek and I tell you it was shameful the amount of trash (beer bottles , broken nets, food wrappers , clothing . ect..) this creek is a natural reproduction factory for STEELHEAD and it is a shame it is treated like a dump . The shear audacity of some people to call them selfs sportsman and leave this destruction behind is the most hanish offense i can think off. I believe that if we as keepers of these places do not start policing it our selfs we will loose it for sure.

enough ranting for now. We started our walk along the bank until we came upon a small pool with a few fish milling around so Scott placed himself above the run and sent the float down into the pool with no results after a few presentations under the float I noticed that this one STEELHEAD was acting funny so I told Scott to hang on and as I was saying this to him this fish charged up steam and came out of the water with a sumer salt and landed on dry land at my feet 4 feet from the water it was something that I have never seen with a STEELHEAD that wasn't hooked or even harassed at all just one minute laying there next minute out of the water going crazy. That was the start of a strange morning , The next pool proved to be even more exciting .Again a few fish swimming around in a nice deep pool with a tail out above it well one fish moved above the pool and was sitting below a tree limb in the middle of the tail out after this fish had risen to the suffice I figured this fish was hot and may take a bait so he tossed the float with a pink dink and it landed (of course ) right in the tree limb and was hooked under the surface about 3-4 feet above this fish well I decided to since it wouldn't come out I would walk out and sacrifice catching the fish to save the float and pinky. Out I went , now I'm standing over this fish and she isn't moving I reach down and pull the rig up, I look at this fish and realize he just doesn't see me or doesn't care so I throw the bait and float in front of him thinking wouldn't it be a gas if this fish grabbed the bait and took off , Well that is exactly what happed as soon as this pink worm hit the water this fish came up and crushed it and in the mean time scared the crap out of me since it was 3 foot in front of me. She was the only fish to take out offering in that tributaries that day , there were plenty of fish but no bitters but it will be a trip that Scott and myself will always remember. Sunday morning we found our selfs on the Salmon River in high surf (3600 cfs) for one of the best days of STEELHEAD fishing I can remember We were only fishing till 10 am so we though with trhe high water we would be lucky to land a fish or two boy was I wrong We were hooked up on the first fish in minutes and the fun never stopped It seemed like every other cast we were hooked up the a screamer It was what I call silly fishing. You just couldn't do anything wrong these fish were just veracious and they just keep ed dropping into our hole all morning we could see them dropping in from up stream and they just hit every thing we tossed at them. Finally after fighting over 20 plus fish in less than 3 hrs Scott said that he had had enough , I think he felt guilty that he was making it look so easy. He ended his fantastic trip with a giant buck around 14-15 lbs . We left our spot to another guide and clients who on there first casts also hooked up , What a day as I talked to this guide he also had a great morning with his clients. The fishing on the Salmon River is AWESOME RIGHT NOW SO CALL NOW  I HAVE MAY 3-4-7-8-12-13-19-20-OPEN FOR STEELHEAD TRIPS.

The waterline said 1800 cfs but more like 2600 or better at the start of the trip this morning. We were skeptical about landing many in these flows but as we moved down stream the water was dropping and the bite turned on around 8 am for us and it never stopped. We started off with doubles so we set the mark high to start with but it wasn't hard to keep the momentum going with all these drop backs . Raffel and his father in law Mark who came all the way from Poland to visit and do a little STEELHEAD fishing on the Salmon River. As you will see in the pictures he had a great time in the boat and was amazed at the size of our rainbows. I lost count after hooking over 15 fish and landing 9 or 10 of them all before 10 am. The river is loaded and now is the time to get up here and get a line wet. Most fish came to the pink dink today under the float

WOW ITS GOING DOWN TO 335 CFS WHAT A SHOCK, man they have there heads up there @#%$#. Anyway fishing is awesome with lots of spawning fish and drop backs the river should keep us busy for a few weeks for sure. The drop back STEELHEAD are scattered threw out the river. The fishing over the last few days has been great with a mix of drop backs and fresh fish there has been plenty of action, plugging , float fishing or bottom bouncing it doesn't matter just get up here and wet a line it will only get better in the next week or two. we have a few dates open this week coming give us a call, we also did the first brown trips of the year this week and did very well evening trips did very well with the guys going 11 for 18 not bad for a 3 hr trip. Turkey season is almost here so get out and do some scouting or just give us a call and we will put you on a big tom we have 2 more spots open . Fishing is good , with many drop backs being caught everyday, and even a few fresh fish showing up, Water levels are low again , just cant figure them out it drives me crazy. This weekend is the start of the youth turkey hunt the 21 and 22 of April. Mark JR and his Dad joined me this weekend for JR'S  first turkey harvest, His Dad joined me last year for his first hunt and walked away with 2 birds in as many days, he was hooked after . Todays hunt took place on the pheasant preserve at Deer Creek Motel (all wild birds) Stan Oulette the Owner manages over 250 aces of prime bird hunting land and thats not all he has some great dogs to help with your pheasant hunts, He runs a class A hunt so give him a call next time you are in town. Back to Jr's HUNT, it didn't take long before we had birds in the field and his breathing picked up and his hart started pounding ,We had decided to take a tom only at first but when a big Jake  came to the decoy first he decided that he wanted to take it and he made a clean shot and his first bird was on the ground , he was as cool as a cucumber ,like he had done this time after time. I was happy to help with his first bird just like his dad and I will remember this hunt like all others involving children and there excitement to learn more about the woods and waters we all enjoy . Oh yea me and dad drifted the river and went 1 for 4 on the steel head while JR slept at the cabin...

Fished with Scott again to day. Scott is new to centrepining but has been fishing for steel for a while . Today we just couldn't keep them on long enough to put them in the net I wanted to blame it on Scott's newly acquired pining skills but what was my excuse, Just one of those days we fought almost a dozen fish all fish were big and violent. The hole were most of the action took place  has a great deal of structure and current so landing  these pigs involves a bit of luck along with our skills, anyway enough crying We still had a great day fishing CROME and we did manage to land a few nice fish we will up the odds in the am , Scott will be joining me in the morning to redeem our selfs, I just received a cancellation for sat if anyone is interested.

EASTER SUNDAY SNOW STORM

 Well there is nothing new to report about the weather but the fishing on the other hand is getting better. As I'm writing this report on easter morning it is still snowing like crazy, we have received up to 2 ft plus here in Altmar and up on the tug hill plateau . The water levels are coming down in most of the tribs and we are starting to see a few more drop back steelies in the mix. I have had my fair share of cancellations over the last week or 2 due to reports on the web of no fish and high water but the fact is there are fish and the water isn't very high for this time of year at all.  Our clients yesterday were hooked up to half a dozen steelhead for the day and I have heard of other guides doing well also over the last few days. It's  tougher fishing with higher water and colder water temps but it doesn't mean the fish aren't here and you can't catch them. I believe the late winter season and good water flows will hold these fish in the river well into May so we have put on a few cast and blasts for turkey and steelhead . We only have a few dates and at the price we are offering them they wont last. Dates and prices are listed above. I'm hopeing the snow stopes today so I can ghet the lake boats ready but it sure doesnt look like its stopping anytime soon Think I will grab the centrepin and hit the river for a little one on one with a metalhead or 2. Friday we hit the creeks  and we landed a few very nice fish with good condition but as we were there the rain was on its way and we all know what that meens. We spent the next few dayts on the salmon river landing a few fish but fishing has been tough the last few days . The melt off is bringing the temps down and locking up the bite but this will change over the next week or sop and the creeks are on there way down as we speak. I will be out the next few days scouting turkey and steelhead . We have a few dates available for steelhead and turkey hunts. We also still have the cast ands blast available for steelhead or browns and turkey in the , call to get the package deal.

The creeks are on there way down and there are fish in all of them , not Hugh numbers but enough to keep us busy netting fish so dont be afraid of the higher water. We will be hitting the creeks in thew next few days and I'm looking forward to getting out of the driftboat for a few days, Hope you are all getting ready for the trout opener should be good weather for the kids. Also lots of open water for those of you who like to chase the schools of perch , LAKE FISHING , a few boats were out today off of Mexico point and they did very well on the browns . For those of you who do not fish the lake this time of year the lake browns show up in the shallows to feed on the bait in the warmer water . Trolling stick baits and spoons will provide lots of action on big football shaped monster browns many times kings will be mixed in with these browns and lets not forget the mighty walleye, Cant wait to get out there myself. Terry fished with me today and he was looking to land his first steelhead, Terry has had a few on but could seem to get 1 to the net so I figured I would see what we could do to help him out. Man there had to be 20 boats out today talk about competition in the higher water. The water is on the dark side so we started with pink worm under the float and a few bright jigs with not much luck for the first 2 hours we were just about to make a move when the float went down and we were tight to a 10 lb buck after 12 min we landed Terry's first steelhead and from the smile on his face I think he was pleased. We locked up a few more times today butr couldn't get the job done  but the weather was great and Terry had his first steelhead. Terry will be having his fish mounted . If any of you steelhead finaddicts out there need a good Taxidermist drop by Salmon River Outfitters or Salmon Heaven Harry or Brenda Powers (owners ) will be glad to help you out. They have taken over Mahoneys tackle shop and he is stocking the shelves with everything you will need to help you catch your trophy fish for your wall, I know sounds like I'm pimpin but there great folks over there and there close to the river .

Fishing has been on and off like a light switch. Friday we landed a few very nice fish but sat and sun were very slow with only 2 fish on and off all weekend . Monday on the other hand turned out to be a better day with fish hit in every hole on a half day trip . The fishing should pick up in the next few weeks as more fish enter the river and more of them spawn out and start dropping back. Today was a good day for the few boats that were out on the river , it sure is nice to have a little space to fish. wont be long before we hit the lake for the football browns and spring kings lets not forget the walleye , SPRING IS FINELY HERE.. we still have some prime dates for drop back steelhead in April so drop us a line and while I'm on the subject the monster brown trout trip in Nov is about full up We just keep adding more dates to this trip every year, It has become the most popular trip of the year and I must say I enjoy the trip myself especially with the new pheasant hunts added on at the end of the day CAST AND BLAST how can you beat that. Also we are still booking Salmon dates so if you want to fish Sept and Oct salmon call now . OK enough CHAT

Todays fishing was challenging at best . We set out before daylight but were beat to the spot we had in mind so we decided to fish the north side of schoolhouse pool and it wasn't long before we were hooked up to a big fat hen , Cody was tight to the fish and absolutely serious about landing this screamer so after a ten min fight and listening to every bit of advise this guide had to offer we netted a beautiful big 12 lb hen and Cody and his dad Paul were both grinning. We left there after another small male lost at the net and a drive by or 2 and started plugging the wire . We put out the copper and pick scale , after the plugging rods were set in there holders I look over to see the left rod bent over and in the water and as I start to say fish on the rod goes slack and I see a boil at the plug and thats the way the rest of the day went . Just couldn't get the hooks in the right place , lost a few more on the float and pink worm and that was that. But Cody and dad were very pleased with Codie's big hen and we got a few nice pics. Well ,winter seems to be hanging on folks. Fishing was spotty over the weekend with 1 fish here and 1 fish there march is always crazy but its time for a little warmer weather. Forecast for the week looks better should be in the 50 by the weekend . Oswego river is still raging at 21000 last I looked. The Salmon river is running 1100 cfs. Really not allot to report about till this weather breaks this week . I will be posting pics of the weekend trips later this week ,

Fished with Allan and Rick today both joined me to learn how to float fish with the centrepin (float rod). We anchored up in the wire, passing 6-7 boats just in the schoolhouse pool wow looked like an aluminum hatch. Well we found our spot and I started the days lesson on drifting the float correctly and wouldn't you know the float goes down on the first drift....ITS GOING TO BE A GOOD DAY!!!!!!!!. Allan and Rick both landed a nice steelhead in the wire and we lost a few more so it was on to frazziers run where we landed another steelhead and lost a fatty, TO SUM IT UP WE HAD A GREAT DAY. We actually had a few runs all to ourselves so some peace and quite along with the violence on the end of our float rods. Well we will be at it again this week folks . I'm off for a day or 2 to catch a few fish threw the ice. We have more spring dates available for steelhead just drop us a line.. TODAYS TOTAL ...5  FISH LANDED OUT OF 10 ON AND RUNNING VERY NICE.....OH YEA THATS MOLLY THE BROWN WE HAVE CAUGHT THIS BROWN TROUT 4 TIMES ON 4 TRIPS IN A ROW........FINNALLY HAD TO NAME HER

Fished with Cody (C-) his dad Paul and their Friend Brian( numb knuckles).  Fishing was good today lost a few but landed a few also.  Fished sacks under the float and the pink worm most of the day. Weather is finally starting to look up for this week to come.  Just  hope the melt is slow.  More reports this weekend........

The weekend fishing and weather were interesting. The Fish in the upper end are getting educated SO KEEP IT FRESH try new patterns and colors in the upper end especially. We had a tough day sat with a few fish on and only 1 landed . Sunday started out with a white out and high winds but we braved the conditions and hit the river anyway. We started in the Barrel and after an hour we were 1 for 3-4  so we moved to Ellis cove were we landed another small male , all the while the weather getting worse and the temps dropping but at least the fish were bitting . Well we were on the move to fish the lower trestle and as we pasted Orwell brook I saw slush and knew the gig was up and as i was telling my guests about what was happening Bang the whole river turned to icebergs , now this does happen time to time up river but I have never seen so much slush at once . Fishing was done for the day . Be back In a few days, here are a few pics . you will notice Brian and Tim had a little snow on there shoulders during the peek of the white out.

The fishing over the past week has been fair to good, We only had a few days of slower fishing. We are fishing over prespawn ,spawning and post spawn steelhead at this time. We have noticed many Redd's (SPAWNING NESTS) in the upper sections of the river. Over the next 2 month fishing will only get better and better as the water warms up into the S. This time of the year offers some of the best steelhead action on lake Ontario tributaries. After steelhead finish there reproductive rituals they start a journey back to the lake but before they can survive this journey they must put some weight back on that they have lost over the spawning period. Basically this means they are simply hungry and will eat just about any food available from eggs to stone flies. We of course capitalize  on this and take advantage of there veracious appetites. This time of year we will be fishing a variety of methods from the centrepin to plugging all with great success, This is a great time of year to introduce kids to steelhead fishing as the warmer weather is coming in and the fish are eating . Ok back to the Salmon River, over the past week Jigs have been producing for us more than anything else also eggs have taken a few fish along with stoneflys. If you have never fished Jigs under the float you really should give it a try it can be a very effective bait under the float.

Buck joined me over the weekend, It was his first get away this winter. Buck has been fishing up here on the Salmon river for many years and has a great knowledge of the Salmon river and many other Ontario tributaries. You would wonder why a guy like Brian (Buck) would need a guide , well he doesn't the fact is that he enjoys the company and also understands that once in a while its good to help the economy out up here. I  enjoy Brains company and his enthusiasm hes always up for trying new things weather its a new pin reel or a new bait its always fresh when he is up in the driftboat. We started out in schoolhouse pool with no luck the wind was blowing and the water was cold not to much action on the other boats as we made our way down river. Around 3 pm we hit lower trestle and anchored up . BY THIS TIME WE HAVEN'T EVEN HAD A BIT, Buck had brought along a buch of new jigs he tied himself and he tied one on and went to work on the steelhead in the run. Ending the day playing with 9 fish and landing 4 most came on (BUCKS WORM JIG ) man them fishes loved that jig . We had a great end to a tough day of fishing all fish came from 1 whole.   DAY 2---- We made the same run today and hit 4 fish landing 3 in the same spot , oh yea 1 in the wire hole also a reel pig but he got away again on Bucks jig. Well it looks like the snow has come to an end (for the time being), We ended up with a total somewhere around 11-12 ft of the white stuff in 11-12 days and believe it or not it wasn't a record. Oswego was really hit hard along with a few other towns on the south east corner of lake Ontario. We are used to the crazy amounts of snow up here we can even put up with getting snow every day but that much none stop really starts to hurt mentally not to mention physically ( shoveling drive ,roofs,pathways ,etc,) you get the drift no pun intended. On to the fishing, we have not had many opportunities to fish the river over the last 12 days with the lots not being plowed but over the last few days we have and the fishing is great lots of fish at thr top end of the river and there easting , guess without being harassed over the last few weeks they are ready to eat. Today was the annual February Salmon Heaven steelhead tournament and it was a great success again this year even with the lousy weather the day before and the highways closing in PA most guys showed up Ithink it was 24 out of 31 guys. The weather was awesome for us today and so was the fishing of course I woke up yesterday with a whopper of a cold but with the great weather I felt up beat and ready to put my guests on the fish. We started out in the wire hole and hooked up within an hour of starting . We  hooked 4-5 fish but could land anything but we hung with it and landed 2 nice 24-25 inch steelies. We hit fish in most spots today but just couldn't break that 25 inch barrier. My guests today were both new to float fishing but picked it up very fast . The total for the day was 3 fish landed out of 8-9 on not a bad day for some green horns (LOL) . Some of the boats did well today and some did not. The big fish was 33 and 1/2 inches . This was as usual catch and release only and no fish harmed could be entered. We lso had a great dinner put on for us at the salmon river inn. Anyone wanting to get into this tournament next year please contact me and we will put you on the list but you better do it soon the slots are limited and will fill fast . trust me they will go fast after this years great fishing , there had to be over 100 fished played today between 12 boats , thats a great day in Feb . Just got back from the Trap Attack Ice tournament, Just in time for a major snow storm . We already have almost 4 feet on the ground and its still coming , talk about paying for the great weather we had in Dec and Jan. I'm am off to do a few shows over the next week  so we wont be reporting much . You can imagine that there isn't much fishing going on even on the ice with this massive dump of snow. Today the weather was a little more forgiving. We had 2 boats out today with some return client's from QUEENS, NY what a fun group of guys. We had most of the upper end to ourselves again this morning but we just couldn't keep a fish buttoned up. Every time we hooked up we dropped them just one of those days I guess. I tell you it can get to you after a while but you have to KEEP FISHING AND THATS WHAT WE DID.  Rick Mick was guiding my client in the second boat and they did manage to land a nice colored up Steelhead. We ended up with over 9 fish on and only  1 landed (ouch) but the boys had a great day and me and Rick enjoyed there company again. Here is Craig with trhe lone Steelhead.

Wow it was cold today . Temps in the teens and a very chilly wind (make ya want to take up golfing as a hobbie) But we did brave it and we were rewarded with a few fish. Mark and his son JR joined me again today so I should have know it was going to snow and be cold because when ever they come fishing with me the weather turns bab(LOL)Dd started it off with a fish in the wire hole but lost it by the boat as the fish tried to pass us . Then it was JR turn with a steelhead on the pink worm in Frazier's run man its good to see him catching fish he and his dad have been fishing with me for a few years so I have been lucky enough to see his technic progress over the past few years. He is also his dads hunting buddie. Jr will be joining me along with his dad for his first turkey hunt , during the youth hunt in NY STATE. OK back to fishing, dad was next with a beautiful 12 lber in the bovines man what a slob and not a mark on her but after that things slowed a little and got colder alot coder. no pics today,,, camera on the desk at home( I HATE IT WHEN I DO THAT)

Fished with Scott today . We started in the schoolhouse with no takers and moved on to the wire where we lost 2 nice fish 1 right at the net , The temps were falling all day and the fishing seemed to slow up a little, We managed a few more fish under five lbs and had a few drivebys. The temps are expected to be below freezing in am so tomorrows trip canceled and I'm heading off to the ice to fill my bucket full of perch and crappie. we have ice , hit sodus bay today for some perch and pike action. North side of Leroy island 3-4 inches and many lake up north are ready to be fished, We landed alot of gills and perch for the fish fryer and a few Handel bar pike on the jiggin rod, We have a few dates for ice fishing . Perch,pike,walleye,gills,. just give us a call and we will hook you up. This is a great way to fill the freezer with fish fillets. The perch fishing is the best in the world bar none.

Today was COLD, I cant tell you how painful it was just to tie on a hook (l0l) Danny Benner and his friend John joined me for the weekend . I asked my clients if they would like to skip sat fishing but the said they were tough guys who could take the cold so we put the boat in at 10 am will the temps around 10 and the wind blowing 30-40 mile an hr so you know that it was more like 20 below . We did manage to hook a few smaller steelhead 3-4 lbs and lost a very nice one at the boat but it was a tough day all the way around my other boat was out and they landed 3 fish for the day. I think we were the only driftboats out , Fishing was on the slower side but we had a lot of laughs , right Danny (lol) Sunday we canceled the trip due to bellow zero temps.

The snow was flying today folks, and the fish were biting. We had to deal with some very cruel wind and snow but as we all know that when there are fish coming to the boat we DONT care. The bite was good from the start most guys did well today if they put the time in but it wasn't easy to stand out there in the wall of Snow coming down. Same old baits working , eggs, jigs ,waxies. The next few days we will be very low temps so please be careful and dress accordingly. We will be reporting over the weekend and posting some more pics, Sorry for the lack of pics but the camera has been on the blink. Over the last week fishing has been up and down most days we have come up with 4-6 fish but we have also had a few days were just putting a few Skippie's in the boat made the day. it seems that we are Finlay experiencing a bit of winter weather with the temps Finlay dropping down to normal highs for this time of year. I'm thinking that Ice fishing may not happen this season at all for the bigger impoundments but if the temps stay below freezing over the next few Weeks maybe the smaller lakes and closed in areas may end up with some good Ice. Still catching fresh fish dime Britte , Most fish on eggs(white,blue) few on jigs and waxies . Oswego River is still raging high (whats new) hoping to get over there soon . Fishing has been tough for us the last 2 days with the lower water levels . The water is coming back up tonight to 1250 cfs but who knows how long . The crowds on the river have been heavy on the weekends due to the great weather . Talked to a few guides today and they all said same thing , 1 to 2 fish over last 2 days. Hopefully the higher water will turn em back on if they don't drop it right away again. Short one be back in a day or 2

Wow I cant believe its been another year. What a great year it was we have had some of the best fishing in years in my opinion and it looks even better for the up coming spring steelhead and brown trout spring season. Well I hope all of you out there received the gifts that you asked for I know I did and I will be fishing with it soon (YES IT WAS ANOTHER ROD).....But I needed it (lol).Anyway the fishing has been good and the weather almost 2 good. I'm going a little crazy without the ice for a second year but what are ya gonna do it comes when it comes. In the mean time I guess I will just have to steelhead fish (lol) We have opened a few extra dates with the great weather we have been having so if ya want to take advantage of this great weather and plenty of fish give us a call (315-298-4599). The most successful baits over the last few days have been egg sacks in blue and pink and the pink(bubblegum)worm. This was a guarded secret a few years ago but now its become a standard in the box. Man what a week to be steelhead fishing up here on the Salmon river the weather has been great and the fishing is just as good. Rick and Scott joined me the last 2 days for lessons on centrepin float fishing and learning a little more about the Salmon river. These guys have a lot of experience fishing the river with a float off a spinning rod but are new to pining some what , Rick has a little more experience with it but Scott was green as they come . Within 5 min Scott had the cast down and he was fishing with a 100% drift and it payed off after Rick landed a nice 10lber Scott landed a nice 15 lb male, who was better than him at that moment (no one) lol......IT WAS A GREAT FEW DAYS WITH MANY FISH PLAYED AND LANDED . These guys are hard core fisherman and I was glad to have em in the boat. There are lots of big fish in the river this season just waiting for you guys to come get them , so give us a call and we will put you on the biggest rainbow of your life .  Fished with Rick and Nick again today from CT. Nick has been using the pin for the first time over the last few days on the driftboat but today was Ricks turn to start pinning. He started with out any trouble at all his casting was right on the mark both of them have learned a great deal over the last few days and already have steel under there belt on the pin. Don't think they will be spinning for steel anytime soon(lol) . Today was slow for most from talking to many guides in the upper end. So we feel very fortunate to have played with around 8 steelhead and landing 4-5 with many other drive bays. We finally landed a nice brown along with the steelhead. Both of them landed there fish on pins today with blue egg sacks as the bait of choice for most. WELL ITS ALMOST XMASS VACATION SO REPORTS WILL START AGAIN IN A WEEK OR 2. MARRY XMASS TO ALL OF YOU AND HAVE A SAFE NEW YEARS............NO PICS. BATTERIES DIED

The last week or so it has been snowing looking a lot more like winter, but just when you think the snow is hear to stay the warm weather comes back. We also have been dealing with the water in the Salmon River changing from 1800 down to 335 and back to 1000 all in 2 days , its unbelievable . Its a wonder these fish don't swim back to the lake . Any way we have been fishing hard the last few days with a lot of pressure over the weekend. I fished with Rick and Nick from CT. These guys are seasoned fisherman with many years under there belt but they had not tried float fishing. They wanted to learn to float fish with spinning gear and the centrepin so that's what we did . Sunday we hit the water late morning and started with a slow bite along with most of the other drift boat guides and clients on the river. We stuck it out till the sun started to fad and we were rewarded with a few very nice steelhead . Monday we decided to fish from Altmar to 2A bridge. We hit fish on the first drop of the plugs and just couldn't get him to the boat and that would be the theme of the day FISH ON FISH OFF we did land one very nice metal head in trestle pool and we had a great day on the river with great weather and even better company , Thanks for joining me in the driftboat.

Fished with some Salmon Crazy members today. BIGHERG AND HIS FRIEND BOB. We started out at 6 am with temps a little over 20  BURRRRRRR. We had a slow bit the first hour and 1/2.. Of course it could have been the banana that Bob brought with him on the boat. He ate it and bam fish on (dam bananas) anyway we started catching fish at every stop and believe it or not Bob comes up with another banana now we are just laughin our as** off about these dam bananas and if you wondering why , it is bad luck to have bananas on a fishing boat ,,,don't ask me why I do not know. Anyway these guys are fly fisherman and wanted to try there luck with the float today so we gave them a lesson in centrepining they both did fantastic and landed losts of fish with around a dozen fish landed and some hogs lost including bighergs giant brown (bummer at the boat) we played with plenty of fish and had a great day thanks guys

Wow the weather has been just crazy up here on the south east corner of lake Ontario. The Salmon river has gone back to 1800 cfs again and will be dropping back to 750 by sat . A friend and I stopped at the dam and found that they are still working on it so this is why the water is so unpredictable. John and Jerry fished with me for there first trip for steelhead and they brought with them some foul weather , it rained all day and the water of course was ragging. But we made the best of it . We fished from Altmar to pineville and hit fish at almost every stop . Today was just one of those days as a guide that you just shake your head in wonder. We had many fish hooked and coming to the driftboat but just could not seal the deal , Some times its like everything is working against you. Well John and Jerry still had a great day with many hook ups . Maybe next guys. hook ups came on both plugs and eggs under the float using spinning gear and centrepins.

Fishing has been outstanding on the Salmon river and the Oswego river , as well as a few more tributaries . We have been out playing over the last few days and coming up with some very high numbers . Some driftboat guides have been landing anywhere from 10-20 fish a day .No Not everyone but a handful of us that know what we are doing are coming up with steelhead and browns . We have been blessed with great weather and mild temps so this combined with a steady barometer has been a major factor. We will be back to work in the am on the Salmon just in time for high water and even higher winds , The Salmon is jumping from 350 CFS to 1800 CFS  MAN WE JUST CANT WIN. Anyway casting eggs under the float has been the ticket chartreuse and white are our choice of color. We have also been using wax worms and spikes on the jig to get em. Well here are a few pics from our playtime. fished with Jim Horan again today . Jim has joined me many times over the last 3-4 yrs . We started in wire hole on the salmon river and started to hit them good so I figured we would stay  for a while and pick at them ,well the fishg had other plans for us Jim hooked a fish that we just couldnt stop , this fish took us from the wire all the way to the end of Frazier's run 20 min battle, Jim was very impressed with his fish and returned him to his water. Well I'm off for a few days of hunting and fishing so I will be back soon.

I had my work cut out for me the last few days folks. Jim and Matt joined me for there first steelhead trip ever , Matt had a little experience salt water fishing but had never fresh water fished ever so that was going to be a challenge but then Jim says to me I have never been fishing at all !!!!!! wow not at all I said to him and his reply was the same NOT AT ALL . Ok so now I have to give a fast lesson on fishing 101 BEFORE THE SUN CAME UP. So after learning the basics they started to hook up and by the end of the first day they were showing signs of improvement (LOL). they did manage to land 5-6 nice steelhead and lost a few on the first day. The second day was a little more challenging as the bie was a little slower but we did manage a few in the boat and the guys learned a little more about the perfect drift. thanks guys

What a great day on the Salmon River. Bill and His good friend Bob joined me today for some November steelhead and that's what they got. Bill has played with many steelhead of the last few years but Bob had yet to land one until today and after that it was on he had what we called the MOJO ALL DAY Bill was very happy to see his friend land some nice fresh chrome on his first trip to Pulaski NY and I was glad to help him land his first metalhead . Bob also landed a 13lb plus fish to top the day off. After a dropped fish or 2 bill landed a nice fish at the end of the day. These guys had a great day on the Salmon river . The weather and the fishing could not be beat. If you can get some time away folks now is the time these fish are hot and there are LOTS OF THEM and that's no B.S. We have some DRIFTBOAT openings NOV---28--29 --30      DEC 2-3--5--6--7--8--9--10--11--12--13--14--15--16 DONT MISS OUT ON THE GREAT FISHING AND LACK OF PEOPLE ON THE RIVER ITS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO FISH ,GIVE US A CALL ..... 5 F0R 7 TODAY

I'm back,,, Boy its good to be back to the salmon river. It was a great trip again folks but you know how it is when you are away from home for an extended period of time , it just feels good to sleep in your own bed. This years high water conditions made for challenging fishing for most folks , I herd more guys complaining about the high water and the tough fishing. Well I think if they spent more time fishing and less time bitc%$# they would have been successful. We looked up and down many creeks and rivers and most were high and muddy most of the time but we did manage to find some productive water with a good number of browns and rainbows. We definitely had to put our time in and had to be in the spot early to beat the others. It seems to me that this whole season has been kinda strange with fish coming into the tributaries late, I think this may have something to due with the high water we have had all season but in any case our clients did well and all landed beautiful browns and steelhead. with many exceptional fish . Mostly we all had a great time with many laughs lots of joking going on as usual. We have clients that join us every year for this trip and I look forward to seeing them as much as they look forward to catching these monster trout. The boys from Mass joined us again this year and we decided to switch things up a bit and with an afternoon of hunting Pheasants and Chuckers man what a day monster trout in the AM and bird shooting in the afternoon,,, you just cant beat that. I will tell ya I'm not the best shot but Harry on the other hand had things under control he backed me and Paul up and did a great job of hitting the mark. Again lots of laughs and we also found some great friends at Baker pheasant and Deer farm in Albion NY and we will be offering more of these Cast & Blasts next season so if this sounds like something you would enjoy give us a call and we will hook you up with the time of your live. I can tell you with out a doubt that this trip is my favorite trip of the year and it gets better every year. We had many new clients join us this trip and I think most if not all will be back for next seasons Monster Brown trout trip.
